The New Vocabulary & Reading series is designed to help EFL learners expand their vocabulary and develop their reading through such skills as scanning and skimming. Each book in the series provides topic-based units with engaging and authentic readings. They introduce a comprehensive vocabulary, including common collocations and their word families. A variety of activities have been created to help learners understand, remember, and apply new vocabulary words.
 
Each book in the series can be used independently of the others. New Vocabulary & Reading Books 1 and 2 are for both absolute beginners and high beginners assumed to have an English vocabulary of about 1,000 words. New Vocabulary & Reading Books 3 and 4 assume a vocabulary of about 2,000 for low intermediate and intermediate learners. New Vocabulary & Reading Books 5 and 6 assume about 3,000 vocabulary for high intermediate learners. All of the books in this series include high-frequency English words used for both everyday life and workplace situations.
 
There is no doubt that vocabulary is the key to unlocking excellent reading skills in English, but to truly learn a new word, learners need to see it repeatedly in different contexts. The sentence structures and vocabulary in each context have been carefully chosen. The vocabulary is introduced and practiced in exercises, encountered again in later reading tasks, and reviewed in the self-test section.
 
Each book in the series contains six units, and each unit is based on a topic which is covered in two readings, and extended through authentic reading text. Learners are given the chance to explore vocabulary before starting a reading task. There are two review tests, each followed by every third unit. The book is further supported by an interactive online program. This includes the reading passages, activities, and additional vocabulary practices from the book using original audio material. Students can access it in a lab or at home for self-study.
